Far upstream from the well-known Silver River Falls off of M-28 the water carves a deep gorge in the Keweenaw's conglomerate ridge to create multiple drops and rapids. Two of the more impressive drops are located furthest upstream, each creating a deep scenic pool below them, although there are plenty of other tall ones along the river below.

Directions

Drive east from Eagle Harbor along M-28 for 4.2 miles. Right before the Brockway Mountain Drive's west entrance the highway crosses a bridge marked with 'Silver River'. Park off the shoulder here and head south, up the river. Once the gorge starts it will be easiest to wade up the creek as opposed to scaling up and down the walls to view the individual drops.

  • pam May 10, '16 Thanks for the directions. These were tough and I'm glad we did these first thing in the day. Must have hiked 3 miles round trip, but worth it!
